We're looking at Groups versus Components. We've already taken a look at Groups and Components in separate videos so today we will be diving a little deeper into the differences between these two and why you might use one over the other in your model.
Thanks for the Square one series! I was especially excited to see that beautiful brown-skinned fabulously fashionable woman as your human figure (that kind of looks like it could be me! LOL) Howwwww did you get that? I have the student version currently... might not be available to me right now - but PLEASE share how. Thanks :)
I learned from my Grandfather,, The law of Memory is,, keep repeating, I keep studying until I get it raight, Thanks!!
Great job. I think I'm getting somewhere.
Great video guys, this makes the difference between the two really clear and I like your take on how to use them :)
You are doing a great job teaching me what the heck I'm doing,,,, thanks!
Thank you! Great explanation!
i turned an image into a DXF and imported it to edit into 3D but when it came in it is a component and i can't figure out how to ungroup it to edit.
for what it is worth, @ WuC7YYAnDA8&t=7m55s 7:55 you say group when you mean component - I'm not sure if you can edit it, or make a note. It confused me at first, but I watched it a few more times and figured out what you meant - thank you for making this. it is very helpful
WuC7YYAnDA8&t=7m55s 7:55 should be "Than I right click & make a COMPONENT"
This is really good lesson. Thank you!
Great review for me. I thought I knew but turns out I learned something new like the difference in the memory use between the two.
sketchup youtube channel have tons of free tutorial that i love most like this video.. thanks a lot for the knowledge..
Aaron, how do we make a component and save it to use in another design?
Thanks again great explaining. Can you do a video about 1moving objects/components/ groups along the red and green axis. 2 Placing guide points in a component and copying and moving other components to these guide points. I found it really handy to have those guide points and I think others would love to know about them.
very useful thanks
So well described!!! Thank you!!!
i hv something else to say
I had second thoughts in watching this because I already know the difference between groups and components. OHHH was I glad to have watched it because I didn't know that 1) erasing groups and components matters. The component was stored in the component tab... 2) "make unique"... and 3) components take less file size than groups... WOW. These are huge tips... Thank you, Aaron
Aaron, absolutely fantastic tutorial. That cleared up so much.
I'm a huge fan of Hot Keys. The thing that confused me when I was a noob was the Hot Key 'g' to make a Component (instead of a Group) as opposed to Hot Key 'c' which is used for circle (obvious choice). That always messed with my head for some reason.
