XFCE and LXDE/LXQt amazing environments and in the video, I will cover many of the differences from general appearance, specifications, to toolkits. XFCE: 1ghz single-core processor, 512MB of ram LXQt: 1ghz single-core processor, 256MB of ram 🤍 🤍 On the LXDE blog, they benchmarked XFCE and LXQt as well as a few other desktop environments. Their results showed that on average LXQt will use slightly less ram than XFCE. If you have a system with less than one or two gigabytes of ram these results may be a strong consideration for you. However, it is important to point out that these differences can vary widely depending on the distribution these are installed on. 🤍 Toolkits provide the overall system to look and feel. They provide the buttons, toolbars, sliders, and menus when you are using various applications. Developers use toolkits because instead of having to code all of these they let them take care of the work allowing them to focus on the core functionality of an application. We will deep dive more into toolkits in a future video, but for now, the most important thing you need to know is that most applications and desktop environments use GTK+. 🤍 In this video, I used two different variants of the Ubuntu Linux distribution. lubuntu for the LXQt environment and Xubuntu for the Xfce variant. Ya pensaste en como quedaría Puppy Linux pero con escritorio LXDE?? Quien ya conoce al glorioso Puppy Linux por ser una de las distribuciones de GNU/Linux principales por resucitar PC's de viejos o de bajos recursos, sabe y conoce todo su potencial, pero el tradicional Puppy no utiliza ningún escritorio, solamente JWM como Window Manager. Aunque Puppy ahora se basa en Ubuntu y ya no posee versión de 32 bits por obvias razones, LXPUP si tiene versión de 32 bits, aunque lleva el nombre de Focal Fossa, esta se basa en Debian 10 Buster. UPDATE: Since the release of the kernel 5.7 creating a Swapfile with fallocate will not work at reboot. Create one with the command "dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=1M count=512 status=progress" (for a 512M swapfile for example) and everything will work fine again. In this video I am doing an Arch Linux full install with LXDE as desktop environment on a UEFI system. LXDE is a very light, fast and resources friendly desktop environment and works really well on older hardware as well. The LXDE desktop environment is for the old computer that you want to revitalize. The system resources are very low so even if you have a computer from the early 2000's you could probably get this system to work for simple documents and light internet browsing, but on the distribution website they recommend at least a gig of RAM to view YouTube or use other modern website services.
