This video is a semi-unscripted tutorial on how to make your Quakespasm (or Quakespasm-spiked) experience look a bit more like the Quake you probably knew from the 90s. This guide was written for those who were either unaware of my guide on Steam or unsure of how to properly enter the commands. TL;DW - Set these commands in the console: gl_texturemode gl_nearest (gl_nearest_mipmap_linear/nearest also works) r_particles 2 r_lerpmodels 0 r_lerpmove 0 r_viewmodel_quake 1 r_scale 1-4 You may have to put the lerpmodels and lerpmove commands in an autoexec file. Games shown running in this video include: -Quake's base campaign -Dimension of The Machine -Arcane Dimensions -Slayer's Testaments To run this source port, I am running Windows 11 for ARM through Parallels 17. 1. Download Quakespasm from: 🤍 2. Unpack the compressed folder onto your desktop (feel free to name the folder whatever you like at this point). 3. Purchase and download Quake on Steam or anywhere you can find the id1 folder. 4. Copy the whole id1 folder from the base game and paste it inside of the unpacked Quakespasm folder. (Drop the folders from other expansions and mods in the same manner to play them, and type "game " (with the name of the mod folder) in the game console to play. 5. You'll need to find the music online for the main campaign and included expansions with the recent enhanced release if you want to play with the music, but it is optional to have the game run. Have fun!

Not sure why the framerate counter didn't show up in this recording, but it was running at 500fps. Download: 🤍 Setup and Documentation: 🤍 Uncap framerate with this command: host_maxfps 500 Download and install original Music: 🤍 "Darkplaces" mod supports shaders and lighting effects if you are in that. As far as I know, quakespasm spike is the only source port that claims to support more than 72fps. Purists would probably prefer dosbox.

You can still open the pak file from the new release of Quake by Nightdive, with PakScape. There are many 'enhanced' assets - models, sounds - in a pak, but newer models are made of MD5 format, which are for id Tech 4 engines. So, these files must be converted to MDL format before they can be applied in the other source ports. You can convert MD5 into MDL files using Noesis(🤍 if you want to do this work, follow this link below via Protox: 🤍 And check the comment section. To add to that, Quakespasm does not allow model skins over 400px in height. Chthon and Shub-Niggurath's skin textures are 512px high, so you have to resize them. Newer sounds have much higher sample rate(44KHz, 706kbps), actually the size of each files are much bigger than the originals(11KHz/88kbps). You can hear the difference in sound quality in the weapon comparison scenes. But in quakespasm, the default sample speed is 11025, so you have to change it correctly to make the right sound by using console the command, for example 'sndspeed "44100"'. Also Quakespasm does not save sndspeed setting, make sure this command should be put into autoexec.cfg in id1 or whatever mod's folder you want. If you extracted and converted them, gather files in the same name and path as the original and combine them into a pak in PakScape, The file name should be have a number after the 'pak', for example, pak2.pak. Anyway, this video is the result. All the scenes were recorded in Quakespasm and the same demo files were played for recording.

Quakespasm 0.94.0 was released on the 3rd of this month, and 0.94.1 was out 2 days later. Now it has Initial support for playing the 'Quake 2021 re-release' content, and Quake 64 is no exception. Text messages are still prompts not properly, but Dimension of the Machine and Quake 64 runs without crashes. Thanks for the developers. So where is Quake 64's pak file? Open the Windows File Explorer, goto [OS drive:\users\your account\saved games\Nightdive Studios\Quake\q64]. There's pak0.pak in the folder, if you downloaded as the add-on in the game(Bethesda Launcher, Steam).

Worked surprisingly well. Until it didn't. Machine Games did some crazy stuff with this one! EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY! This is just showing off the changes in engine for this official rereleases. They seem to work slightly differently than the old methods and Original content. I uploaded this mainly to see how differently the rerelease operated from what the source port expected. THE QUAKE RERELEASE WORKS FINE! THIS IS A BUGGY WEIRD EXPERIMENT!

It's finally happening: I'm playing some of the holiday jams, largely spurred on by Strideh's incredibly strong showing in the 2022 brutalist jam (his only previous contributions have been to 2 xmas jams and 1 halloween jam), and by the imminent release of the Twisted Christmas jam in December. I originally skipped over the holiday jams, largely because I suspected they would be a mixed bag at best. That certainly was the case here, but there are still easily a few standouts. I also haven't played too many 1024^3 limit maps, and the presence of that limit felt pretty tangible in some of these maps. Table of Contents: 00:00 - Intro 05:20 - To Absent Fiends by FifthElephant 17:18 - A Warm Welcome Home by Bal (with follow-up secret hunting at 3:15:03) 51:44 - Pale Signs of Doom by Breezeep 1:07:15 - Remains in a Manger by dumptruck_ds 1:26:22 - Winter of the Ice Queen by Redfield 1:43:53 - Etemenanki by Ionous 2:04:35 - The Drowning a City Fell Victim To by Mukor 2:19:10 - Untitled by Naitelveni 2:25:40 - Wat mutt, dat mutt by negke 2:37:32 - The Pillar by Pritchard 2:58:17 - Mae'hu Maechrimma by ItEndsWithTens Standouts: A Warm Welcome Home does a lot with the limited space it works within, and has some all-too-well-hidden secrets. I came back to find the rest in order to uncover the super-secret "reward" that chat alluded to, which is one of the most holiday-themed features of the entire pak in an otherwise not-particularly-holiday-themed map. Winter of the Ice Queen is arguably one of the more on-theme maps, at least in a seasonal sense. It's fairly short, but it's got some cool and unique visuals, and you can't knock a map that lets you help build a snowman (complete with sound effect). The Pillar has really neat aesthetics (vaguely reminding me of Pritchard's Func Map Jam 8 map), and once again provides a seasonally-appropriate winter backdrop. I wasn't necessarily a fan of the one-way nature of the level's elevator, and had a rather unfortunate experience on my first attempt when I completely overlooked the SSG and was immediately doomed to failure upon my first descent. - For more BQTN (Better Quake Than Never), see details and the full playlist here: 🤍 This was originally livestreamed. A start map with toilet humor and menu noises that might've come straight out of Banjo-Kazooie, what more can you ask for? I haven't spent much time playing speedmaps, as I've expected they could vary far more widely in quality. That being said, I saw plenty of screenshots of the 2nd Snack Pack when it released and that certainly caught my interest, so I'm starting with the first one, and I've picked out a few other modern speedmap packs to check out afterwards. This pak features plenty of recognizable names in the mapping community, and is a solid series of maps for the most part - it's arranged into an episode that progresses through a few themes, rather than being a collection of standalone maps.
