In this video, I show you how to blend two images in Inkscape. Inkscape is a free vector graphics editor but you can still use it to combine bitmap images such as photos. In this simple tutorial, I show you how to smoothly blend two photos to create one image. In the first example, I merge two skyline photos together using a mask to create a smooth transition between the images... and in the second example, I demonstrate how to blend two images using a clipping mask and feathering to soften the edges. I use blend modes to better match the two images - in this case, a car and an image of a desert road. I create a shadow for the car by drawing a path and adjusting it’s blur and opacity. Inkscape is not the best software for working with bitmap images, but with it’s broad range of features and functions it still does a good job. This is great if you want to combine bitmap images with vector graphics but only want to learn to use one software package. Free Cheatsheet 👉 🤍 What are blending modes and how do you use them in digital art? 🤔 I get some sort of variation of this question every single day and I've been trying to come up with a video to explain it all for months now. Seriously. Blending modes can be super confusing at first but the key thing to remember is that you actually don't have to remember anything. I find blending modes to be much more of a "feel" thing than a theory thing - as long as you understand the main idea behind the 5 main blending mode categories, then you're good to go! • Category 1: Darken (Multiply, Linear Burn, Color Burn, Darken, Darken Color) • Category 2: Lighten (Screen, Add, Color Dodge, Lighten, Lighter Color) • Category 3: Contrast (Overlay, Soft Light, Hard Light, Vivid Light, Linear Light, Pin Light, Hard Mix) • Category 4: Inversion (Difference, Exclusion, Subtract, Divide) • Category 5: Color (Hue, Color, Luminosity, Saturation) Oh! Step by step 00:00 | Inkscape 1.1 Tutorial: Creative Type and Blending Modes 00:11 | Grab the TEXT TOOL and type "CREATIVE" in Montserrat Heavy font. 00:27 | Convert text to paths and ungroup. 00:39 | While the objects are selected grab the TWEAK TOOL. Increase width and force. 00:54 | Change mode to jitter the color. Disable the saturation and opacity channels. 01:03 | Change color and click and drag to objects. oday I'm going to show you how to use blend modes in Illustrator. Blending modes are like filters that add to an image. Blend Modes: Normal - No filter added to the layer Multiply - Darkens an image Screen - Lightens an image Overlay - Boosts contrast Color - Blends only the color Luminosity - Blends only the brightness Darken - The objects on top darken the bottom objects Lighten - The top objects lighten bottom
