Expert explains why drug decriminalization isn't working for Oregon | The Story | Sept. 27, 2022

Sept. 27, 2022 on The Story: It's been almost two years since Oregon voters passed Measure 110, decriminalizing possession of small amounts of hard drugs. The plan was to use money from the state's marijuana tax to create more addiction services — putting emphasis on treatment over punishment. But with a lack of incentive to seek treatment, not many people are actually doing that. A drug policy expert at Stanford University says until the state fixes this flaw, the problem will continue to get worse. UNBOXING OREGON: What It's Like Living in OREGON

Is everyone in Oregon a hippie? Does Oregon have the prettiest coast in the country? And is Portland really weird? We’ll answer those questions and more! So put the umbrella away - cause Oregon natives don’t use those stupid things. We’re gonna unbox the state or Oregon! And I’m totally wearing skinny jeans right now. Like SO skinny jeans. I can barely move. But it’s awesome. Wow. Look at this. The Oregon coastline. Such a pretty place. This rugged coastline might be the most stunningly beautiful stretch of coast in the entire country. It’s not always sunny here, but this coast is truly one of a kind. But of course, Oregon isn’t all pretty coastline. Actually, ecologically, Oregon is one of the most diverse states in the country. And depending on where you live, the PEOPLE are different too. To truly understand Oregon, we need to look at the entire state’s various regions, and understand what each area is like to live in. This is Oregon. It’s a pretty big state - in size, it ranks 9th biggest in terms of square miles. There’s a lot of parts of the state that are very crowded, and many parts that are really isolated. Like over here. We’ll begin in Eastern Oregon. #oregon #movingtooregon Country City Media: 🤍 You can buy my music here: iTunes: 🤍 Google Play: 🤍 Amazon Music: 🤍 Homeless people Cowboys hippies It is such a big state and there is so much to see but there’s issues There’s a lot of small towns where there’s folks who don’t want to be noticed There’s a lot of Portland people who just want the world to notice All the things they do in Portland is to be themselves but always Others in the state are like can’t we just live our lives in solace? It’s a state of drugs but there’s more to it than that Oregon is complicated Hipsters ranchers mountains beaches skiers vegans gays and freaks There’s a different feel here just take a trip with me and see Waterfalls and ocean cliffs and forests deep with lots of trees Some wear wranglers some wear suits and then there’s those in skinny jeans Homeless Eugene By Visitor7 - Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, 🤍 Hiking By Brian & Jaclyn Drum - Flickr, CC BY 2.0, 🤍 Eastern Oregon 🤍 Pendleton Oregon 🤍 Madras Oregon 🤍 Windsurfing 🤍 Medford 🤍 Southern Oregon 🤍 Oregon Coast 🤍 Driving I5 🤍 Oregon Drone 🤍 Corvallis 🤍 Homeless encampment 🤍 Portland 🤍 Portland protest 🤍 Portland map By Sean Kelly (User:Sean Kelly) - 🤍 CC BY-SA 3.0, 🤍 East Portland 🤍 Portland rain 🤍 Ranching By WBRA Jen - Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0, 🤍 Hippies By © Jorge Royan / 🤍, CC BY-SA 3.0, 🤍 Music at the end: Jahzzar/Shine. Here's what downtown Portland, Oregon looks like these days.

A downtown tour of Portland shows some real surprises! So here we are in downtown Portland Oregon. You’ve probably heard that Portland has a lot of challenges, and is being run by a terrible liberal government that turns its back on crime and vandalism and homelessness. Those are all true. Portland suffers from mismanagement, and has for years now, and because of that lots of bad people are coming and lots of good people are leaving. Say what you want about Portland’s politics and crime, but it IS a really pretty and charming place, despite a lot of the damage that’s been done by vandals and the homeless stain on the city. And on this drive, we’re going to take a tour through a lot of downtown Portland. We’re lucky, because the day I chose this drive was a nice one. It was evening in late October, right when the city’s maple trees were beginning to fall, creating a neat orange carpet. Now I know you came to see the homeless tents, and we'll get to that part and we'll see the part of town that's in tatters from the looting too. But I have to say, while driving around downtown Portland I was surprised that the city wasn’t as destroyed or chaotic or overrun with tents like I had thought it would be. Oh I mean it was a thing, but it wasn’t as BAD as you hear about on the news. At least when I was here. On this drive you’ll see a lot of windows broken out and graffiti and homeless people. But Portland has had some time to recover from the seemingly endless protests, where a holes battled with the cops and ruined a big chunk of downtown. The city is also actively trying to clean up all the bum poop and the needles and has begun to push some of the homeless encampments out of downtown and into surrounding areas. Here’s where all the rioting happens that you see on TV. Based on news reports, you’d think that the whole city was up in flames and gutted out. But it’s actually just in one small part of downtown that’s about 5 blocks long. And until there’s another overreaction to something that happens here, this riot zone is pretty peaceful and quiet. Too bad it can’t stay this way all the time, but vandals and criminals and idiots can’t seem to remain civil. They’ll jack this part of town up again, sadly. This is where a big part of the homeless gather downtown. It’s in an area off of Burnside, near Portland’s Chinatown. These blocks and blocks of downtown have been overtaken by tents, and it's an area that kind of ruins a whole section of downtown. When I was here, it was all mostly contained to one area. Don’t get me wrong - the homeless spill out into the surrounding blocks and leave trash everywhere and harass people and cause issues. And almost all bathrooms in the area have a keypad to get in to prevent homeless people from using area bathrooms to do what homeless people do in there. But it’s not really that dangerous here in downtown’s tent city. At least to me. Sure it looks bad, but I walked around in this area at night and it was actually pretty quiet. It was like the homeless people were all given sedatives or something. And the maple leaves on the sidewalk certainly helped to cover up a lot of the grimy homeless mess, too. You can see a lot more of this in another video I did that only covered Portland’s homeless problem. And when you drive around into other parts of the city, it’s clear that it is a BIG problem. #oregon #moving Subscribe to World According to Briggs here! 🤍 You can buy my music here: iTunes: 🤍 More places to get my music: -Google Play: 🤍 -Amazon Music: 🤍 This channel is about America! Oregon – Jacob de Haan

Subtitle: Fantasy for Band De Haske Inspiration Series Grade 4 – Duration: 09:09 🤍 This fantasy tells the story of Oregon, one of America's north-western states. Traveling by train on the Northern Pacific Railroad, the listener is taken through the fascinating Oregon landscape. Indians, cowboys, golddiggers and hooded wagons will file past on this adventurous journey. The piece has some similarities with a soundtrack of a movie. Various melodies, which could be the main themes of a movie, pass the review. The piece begins in a slow movement, introducing the first theme in minor. Then we hear in the following fast movement the trombones imitate the train, whistling the steam-flute. We hear the characteristic minor theme again, but now in different variants (also in major). The rythmic structure of "western" stile and rock succeed each other. This is leading to the slow movement, where the signals of horns and trumpets introduce a wonderful vocal melody. After this characteristic melody, the fast movement appears shortly again, the trombones whistling the steam-flute again (now in major). We hear also some musical elements, that plays a part in the following Presto. Barchanges, jazzy chords, interesting rhytmic patterns (with bongo) and an original theme are the characteristics of this Presto. After this, the horns announce the last section of the piece. Interesting is the fact that we hear in this Allegro section a variant of the vocal melody in the slow movement. Also the Presto theme returns shortly, followed by the Allargando, which is a grand characteristic end of a soundtrack. The movie of our travelling fantasy has come to an end. DHP 0890139-010

FLYING OVER OREGON (4K UHD) - Calming Music With Stunning Natural Landscape Videos For Stress Relief

Welcome to Earth Relaxation ! Oregon is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the Western United States. The Columbia River delineates much of Oregon's northern boundary with Washington, while the Snake River delineates much of its eastern boundary with Idaho. The 42° north parallel delineates the southern boundary with California and Nevada. Oregon has been home to many indigenous nations for thousands of years. The first European traders, explorers, and settlers began exploring what is now Oregon's Pacific coast in the early-mid 16th century. As early as 1565, the Spanish began sending vessels northeast from the Philippines, riding the Kuroshio Current in a sweeping circular route across the northern part of the Pacific. In 1592, Juan de Fuca undertook detailed mapping and studies of ocean currents in the Pacific Northwest, including the Oregon coast as well as the strait now bearing his name. Why Aren't There More Black People In Oregon A Hidden History presented by Walidah Imarisha

Have you ever wondered why the Black population in Oregon is so small? Oregon has a history not only of Black exclusion and discrimination, but also of a vibrant Black culture that helped sustain many communities throughout the state—a history that is not taught in schools. Author and educator Walidah Imarisha will lead participants through an interactive timeline of Black history in Oregon that speaks to the history of race, identity, and power in this state and the nation. Participants will discuss how history, politics, and culture have shaped—and will continue to shape—the landscape not only for Black Oregonians but all Oregonians. Thomas Robinson will share a photo essay on the impact of the policies and decisions that have impacted Black Portlanders in North and Northeast Portland. * Walidah Imarisha has taught courses on topics as diverse as the history of the Black Panther Party, race and the history of prisons, Hurricane Katrina, and hip hop as literature at Portland State University and throughout the country. Imarisha also filmed and codirected Finding Common Ground in New Orleans, a documentary about Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath. Thomas Robinson is a Photo Archivist who tells important stories through historical photographs. This event on May 29, 2014 at the Portland Building Auditorium to a standing room only audience, was presented in partnership with the City of Portland Civil Rights Program.

10 Places in OREGON You Should NEVER Move To

Move to these Oregon places and you're gonna regret it big time! Oregon. Known for its coffee, craft brews, fishing and green energy sources, there’s a little something for everyone in this beautiful and scenic state. Oregon has a picturesque coast that is bordered by the ocean on one side and desert and mountains on the other. It’s one of the few states where it’s possible to ski one day and surf the next. Pretty cool. As you probably already know, Oregonians care about the environment. You’ll never see someone throw trash out of their car window and owning and riding a bike here is practically a law. And, Oregon has a growing economy that’s home to some of the largest companies in the world - like Nike. It’s also one of the few states in the U.S. with no sales tax. But face it, there’s bad places to live in every state. To measure the bad places in this state, we have to use two things - data and opinion. We’ve looked at a bunch of data, you know - crime, poverty, the quality of schools and home prices. Plus, we took into account YOUR opinion - that’s right - you Oregonians have a lot to say about which places in your state are great and which are not so great. #oregon #moving Used Needles: 🤍 Cottage Grove: 🤍 (permission granted via comment) Google Street View Sweet Home: 🤍 (Creative Commons) Google Street View Klamath Falls: Wikipedia photos: 🤍 Bobjgalindo, CC BY-SA 4.0 🤍 via Wikimedia Commons 🤍 Bobjgalindo, CC BY-SA 3.0 🤍 via Wikimedia Commons 🤍 Walter Siegmund, CC BY-SA 3.0 🤍 via Wikimedia Commons Google Street View Prineville: Wikipedia photos: 🤍 Cacophony, CC BY-SA 3.0 🤍 via Wikimedia Commons Madras: 🤍 (Creative Commons) Storyblocks Video Google Street Views You can buy my music here: iTunes: 🤍 Google Play: 🤍 Amazon Music: 🤍 This channel is about America! Here's What It Was Really Like To Pioneer On The Oregon Trail

Trailblazing is a word we use these days to describe people who have laid the path for future generations. But between 1811 and 1840, fur traders and trappers physically and literally laid the path of the famous Oregon Trail. The Oregon Trail was only passable by foot and by horseback, but by 1836 the first wagon train was organized from Independence, Missouri, and reached as far as Willamette Valley in Oregon. The trail covered the states of Missouri, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon. But these trails were no hike up a scenic route; it was a trail into the wild unknown for many of these pioneers. Oregon - Catania Jazz, 20 marzo 2018 - ABC

Formazione Ralph Towner: chitarra, pianoforte Paul McCandless: oboe, sax soprano Paolino Dalla Porta: basso Mark Walker: batteria, percussioni
